Overcome your fear solo EASY carry a magnum revolver and a 8" blade survival knife. Also I always carry a proximity alarm(Ebay < $15) and solar garden light with motion sensor as well as a bright flashlight, first aid kit and mini cherry bomb firework. When I hear a noise I light one and throw it out of my tent if the bang does not scare whatever is outside then it is magnum time.

There are brands of ramen from South Asia meant to be crushed up raw with seasoning as a snack, you should try them 😊

For summer hiking, it’s okay not to bring a stove. As long as you’re comfortable with it, you can have all your meals be cold prepped meals and snacks.

Thanks for another great video. Awesome scenery on a great trail. But man, I have to say you looked (and sounded) a little rough. Appreciate you toughing it out. Hope you feel better soon, brother, I've always said a bad day on the trail is always better than a good day at work...that is until once on a solo 3 day hike in the Kisatchie Forest, Day 2 morning, I got some sort of stomach bug. Had trouble staying hydrated, everything kept coming up. (and down) Later, on day 2, pulled groin muscle during a stream crossing 3 miles before camp. Ended up basically limping from cathole to cathole. Ran out of toilet paper, so I had to get creative. Couldn't possibly get any worse, right? ...After a mostly sleepless night, (thanks to the belly rumbles), I wake to find that some forest creature chewed up one of my Altra Lone Peaks and run off with the other one. So, on day 3, the hike to the trailhead was really interesting, to say the least. Half of my left shoe held together with paracord, and a makeshift sock/bandana/pine needle/duct tape contraption on my right foot that looked every bit as uncomfortable as it was. Stumbling into the trailhead, some other hikers said I looked like I'd been "eaten by a wolf and crapped off a bluff"... it's funny now... but I wasn't too amused at the time. .

I've never used a quilt I'm skeptical I toss and turn a lot on it gets cold in the high Rockies at night

I've been to Pinto Lake twice, once in 1968 and once in 1975. Both timers we hiked in from the Banff Jasper highway. The first time we went in and out the same day. I was in shape then!! The fishing was fantastic . We caught one Dolly Varden 32" long. The 2nd time we not only didn't catch one fish, there was litter in the form of mounds of cans EVERYWHERE. The horsepackers brought the garbage in but didn't take it out. Terrible.

Of course the most comfortable set-up includes a hammock! I really like sleeping in hammock when backpacking, especially my 12' SLD Trail Lair. 12' makes a difference over 11'as far as comfort goes, and is only 2 oz heavier at 18oz (including integrated bug net)
